Sterling movements ahead of pre budget report - Exchange rate against dollar euro swiss franc swedish krona south african rand

Sterling has had a mixed start to the day with consumer confidence coming out slightly better than expected and trade balance figures a little worse

Upon entering the office Sterling had lost ground against a basket of major currencies however we have recently seena fightback over the past hour or so.

All eyes will now be eagerly awaiting the pre budget speech and what Alistair darling has to say - following the pattern of 2009 pretty much every time Mr Darling speaks Sterling tends to tumble so will things be different today????

I believe we should know more by lunchtime so check back later for information on what was said and any rate movements that have resulted from them.

Buying currency - The process

Having assisted many clients over the years that have requirements to send funds abroad I completely understand that each individual case needs to be dealt with in a different way.

Some clients may know exactly how the markets work and purely would like to achieve the best exchange rates, and some may have little or no understanding about how the markets work and need some help along the way.

If I could predict exactly where the markets will go in the future I would quite clearly be a very rich man so I cannot guarantee you solid advice, however I can give you my opinion based on market knowledge and trading the markets myself for years.
