Stable start to the week for Sterling against most major currencies vs EUR SEK USD AUD NZD CAD THB and more

Sterling has started off the week reasonably quietly however expect much more volatility during the course of today's trading.

A couple of releases of note are firstly the retail sales figures that came out this morning which came out pretty much exactly as expected at 4.2%.

House price balance data is also due out over the course of the day and the U.K could really do with the housing market to assist in pulling us out of a recession.

Personally, I believe over the next decade and onwards the U.K will become a little more European when it comes to home ownership/renting and many more of the younger generation will decide to rent which could push housing demands down and therefore prices down with it.

On the markets today we see a flurry of data for the U.S with Trade balance figures and the Fed's Beige book released later, this is a key indication as to how the U.S economy is fairing and could lead to Dollar volatility.

Also today we have seen Australian home loans down by 5.6% in November leading to Australian Dollar weakness.
