Sterling report and forecast EUR USD CHF CAD AUD NZD ZAR SEK

Sterling report and forecast 16th March 2010 - Daniel Wright (Associate Director)

This report is written for current and potential clients of Foreign Currency direct to provide important information on Sterling and a basket of major currencies, alongside providing vital information on upcoming data releases that may affect the cost of sending money overseas or bringing money back.

Monday’s movements
GBP-EUR (-0.38%) GBP-USD (-1.11%) GBP-AUD (0.84%) GBP-NZD (0.95%)

This report will include the following

• Federal reserve interest rate decision
• Bank of England minutes
• Media quote ahead of minutes
• What else may move exchange rates this week

Fed interest rate decision tonight

Tonight sees the release of the Federal Reserve interest rate decision which has the potential to be a big market mover for those with U.S Dollar or Arab Emirate Dirham interests. Especially as purely on the rate movements yesterday, a £100,000 transfer to Dollars at the end of the day instead of the morning achieved clients a whopping $1600 less for their money – don’t be caught out yourself this week, let your account manager know what you are looking to do and he can keep you informed of market movements to avoid a nasty surprise.

No change in rates is expected however the Fed have been known to surprise in the past (most notably of late when they raised their Fed funds rate completely unexpectedly) this action led to rapid and major Dollar strength.

Also investors will be keeping a keen eye on any comments regarding the U.S economy and how it is faring and with data looking slightly better of late across the pond it wouldn’t surprise me to see Dollar strength overnight tonight.

Bank of England minutes & media quote

The Bank of England minutes released tomorrow morning are also due to be a head turner as we get to see how many members of the MPC were in favour of reigniting the Quantitative Easing flame for the U.K.

Should it evolve that it was a close vote out of the 9 members for example 5-4 or 6-3 then it suggests there still is scope for QE at the next decision and you may see Sterling lose ground accordingly, on the other hand a clean sweep and 9-0 against QE should bring Sterling strength.

If you are concerned about how these two decisions may affect any upcoming transactions you have be it buying or selling currency why not do what many of my business clients are doing of late and place a limit or stop order ensuring that you are protected from adverse market movements and can budget for your purchase accordingly. Contact us directly on 0800 328 5884 for a full explanation on this simple action that could save you £1000s.

‘The minutes could lead to a shaky day for the Pound tomorrow. Should QE become the main focal point again investors may run like the wind from Sterling as it tallies up yet another reason to steer well clear of it.’

What else might affect exchange rates this week?

Obviously those readers that have bought or sold currency before are fully aware many surprises can pop up on the markets, however the following data is also out this week that may affect exchange rates for Sterling against the Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar and the U.S Dollar.

17th March - Swiss Trade Balance data
18th March - Inflationary data for both the U.S and Canada
19th March - Canadian Retail Sales data

Buying or selling Euros? Greece is still a factor!

Those of you with Euros still to buy or sell should also be extremely wary of any further releases regarding the economic situation in Greece and how the Euro Zone are planning to attack it.

A decision is now fairly imminent and which way the market goes is all dependent on how it is taken by investors – once again another reason to consider the various options available to you inclusive of forward contracts, stop losses and limit orders to protect yourself from adverse market movements.

Sterling and other currencies update for the week ahead gbp eur usd aud cad

Good afternoon,

As usual I like to keep all of my clients up to date with market movements so here is an overview of what may affect the market in the next week or so.

Should you have an upcoming requirement for February please do let me know either by replying to this email or by giving me a quick call so that I can get in touch should a great buying or selling opportunity arise.

There are a number of important releases due out this month as always and with Sterling starting off on a negative note which just goes to show it is imperative you catch the rate at the right time should any little spikes in the market occur.

Firstly – Consumer Confidence is released at 00:01 tonight and European retail sales data tomorrow morning, on Thursday we see Interest rate decisions both for the U.K and the Euro zone at 12:00pm and 12:45pm respectively – no rate changes are expected however all eyes will be fixed on what is mentioned regarding further Quantitative Easing or future economic policies as this could cause large volatility.

Friday brings house price data for the U.K and also a flurry of key unemployment data both for the U.S.A and for Canada so keep a close eye on these releases should you have a trade to do involving either of these two currencies.

Do feel free to contact me at any time should you wish to discuss any of these releases and how they may affect any upcoming purchases and I will be more than happy to help.

This is a brief summary of todays report for further information on the currency markets or if you have an upcoming transfer to make and want to discuss the options available to you call Daniel Wright on 01494 787462 or email me djw@currencies.co.uk

Pound Sterling starts to lose strength again - U.K out of recession this week? GBP EUR USD CHF AUD NZD report and forecast

The pound started to drop away again in Friday’s trading following much worse than expected retail sales figures for December. This really does highlight the importance of catching spikes in the market when they do arise, as at one point last week Sterling had hit it’s highest point against the Euro since August, against the Dollar for 6 weeks and a basket of major currencies hit levels we have not seen for some time.

It followed a series of reasonably positive releases at the start of the week whereby house prices were on the up, inflation had risen and U.K unemployment came out a lot better than expected. Just catching the rate at right time last week could have gained you over €2500 extra on a £100,000 - € transaction.

These movements really do once again prove why that if you do have a transfer to make it is imperative to have a free, no obligation trading facility open here at Foreign Currency Direct which can be opened in just two minutes by clicking here. Once open you will be allocated a personal account manager who can contact you to inform you of movements throughout the day should you so wish

Recession to come to an end for the U.K?

Tomorrow brings what could well be one of the key data releases of the year for anyone with Pounds to sell or another foreign currency to bring back into Sterling over the course of 2010 as the U.K is expected to officially come out of a recession after the longest seen on record.

This is not set in stone however and those who believe that merely coming out of a recession will lead to instant gains for the Pound be aware as the markets also move well in advance of data releases coming out, mainly off the back of predictions, so should the U.K come out of a recession but growth not be as much in the last quarter as expected then we could actually see Sterling weakness!

The release is due at 09:30am tomorrow so it is key to be in a position to trade should the release not go in your favour for what you are looking to do, a quick call in to your account manager today in advance would be smart thinking as then they can add you to their list of clients to inform of any sharp movements for or against them - call now on 0800 328 5884 to make sure you are one step ahead.

Politics also due to be key this year and in the short term

With political instability being one of the four main factors that will affect the value of a currency clients with upcoming requirements should be aware that the next few weeks and months indeed could once again be a testing time for the Pound.

The recent Dollar weakness seen at points last week was heavily down to Barrack Obama announcing that he is looking to bring in a series of changes that will completely shake up the banking system in the U.S which was taken poorly by investors hence the losses at the start of last week for the Dollar.

Obama’s changes are due to limit the size of banks and their investments in an attempt to minimise the chance of this huge economic meltdown happening again and it will effectively separate investment banks from commercial banks and completely change the way banks are to be run.

That won't help, suggested Rob Nichols, president of the Financial Services Forum, an industry group representing 18 of the largest financial companies.
"Proposals to preemptively break up large, well-managed and well-capitalized banking companies — or to reimpose Glass-Steagall restrictions — are based on a misdiagnosis of the causes of the financial crisis," he said.

It is rumoured that U.K Prime Minister Gordon Brown is considering bring in similar changes in the U.K and should this be announced one would expect to see exactly the same impact on Sterling - Investors dropping bank shares and indeed the Pound to concentrate on more lucrative investments.

Alongside this Gordon Brown is now due to testify in the Iraq inquiry before the General election takes place this year which could also lead to some extremely interesting market movements as personally I would imagine that the publicity of this inquiry can only lead to further political instability and indeed potentially another reason for the Pound to dip.

Stable start to the week for Sterling against most major currencies vs EUR SEK USD AUD NZD CAD THB and more

Sterling has started off the week reasonably quietly however expect much more volatility during the course of today's trading.

A couple of releases of note are firstly the retail sales figures that came out this morning which came out pretty much exactly as expected at 4.2%.

House price balance data is also due out over the course of the day and the U.K could really do with the housing market to assist in pulling us out of a recession.

Personally, I believe over the next decade and onwards the U.K will become a little more European when it comes to home ownership/renting and many more of the younger generation will decide to rent which could push housing demands down and therefore prices down with it.

On the markets today we see a flurry of data for the U.S with Trade balance figures and the Fed's Beige book released later, this is a key indication as to how the U.S economy is fairing and could lead to Dollar volatility.

Also today we have seen Australian home loans down by 5.6% in November leading to Australian Dollar weakness.

Sterling report and forecast GBP January 7th 2009 against EUR USD AUD SEK NOK NZD CHF and more

Yesterday saw Sterling take a tumble once again as one of the four factors of the currency compass – Political certainty took a huge turn for the worse.

Two Ex Cabinet ministers – Patricia Hewitt and Geoff Hoon have come out and called for a secret ballot on Gordon Browns leadership merely months before the general election is to be held. Although at first sight it appears that the request has very little support, it is still a telltale sign that the party is clearly divided and starts off an interesting 2010 politically with a bang.

The factors that affect the strength of a currency ( sometimes also known as the Ellis currency compass are Economic stability, Political certainty, Acts of terror and Acts of god.

Although there is clearly little one can predict about the latter two appearing the first two points are always key, and if you look at the U.K economically coupled with the latest twist in the labour Government it does not paint a pretty picture for the Pound in the short term.

Broken and now frozen Britain!

The whole of Britain got hit with a major freeze yesterday alongside a huge amount of snow causing chaos on the roads and indeed closing many businesses.

Should this poor weather continue it may have an effect on the future strength of Sterling for a number of reasons – Retail sales rely heavily on the weather and with not only consumers unable to hit the stores but also some stores not even opening it could put a major dent in figures for January.

Alongside this thousands of businesses have had to close as staff simply cannot make it to work, slowing down production and costing the British economy Billions of Pounds.

Should you be stuck inside over this period why not take a look at your finances and make that currency purchase you just have not had time to get round to lately.

Here at FCD so far our trading lines have been open from 08.30am until 18:00pm to continue to assist you with your currency needs come rain or shine. Call us now on 0800 328 5884 should you wish to discuss any upcoming requirement, and one of our bright and friendly traders will be happy to assist you.

Breaking news yesterday evening & overnight

Yesterday evening saw the release of the FOMC minutes over in the U.S and comments made by the Fed confirmed they are worried about sluggish job growth and the recovery will be slow, usually one would expect Dollar weakness but this morning we have actually seen the opposite, proof there if still confidence in the Dollar.

We also saw the release of Trade balance and retail sales figures for Australia which came out slightly better than expected and has led to early morning gains for the Australian Dollar.

Today’s Data

Today promises to be an interesting day on the markets most notably with the Bank of England interest rate decision at 12:00pm and you should certainly speak to your account manager here at Foreign Currency Direct about the effects it may have on your particular purchase:

10:00am – European Retail Sales – This data may cause volatility for the Euro should it come out any different than the 0.1% increase expected.

12:00pm – Bank of England interest rate decision – No changes to interest rates are expected and this should be a low key decision however as regular readers must be aware the Bank of England do like to surprise us and any mention of future interest rate movements, economic policies or quantitative easing may cause large market movements.

Exchange rates volatile during pre budget report - GBP movements against USD EUR CHF CAD AUD NZD SEK NOK DKK AED ZAR & More

Sterling had a really rocky day on the markets yesterday as Alistair Darling announced his pre budget report.

At first, we saw Sterling strength as no windfall tax on bank profits was announced which led to Sterling gaining early ground against a basket of major currencies.

As always throughout 2009 Sterling took one step forward followed by rapidly taking two steps back later on in the report - this appeared to be down to announcements that National Insurance contributions will rise in April 2011, VAT as we all know will revert back to 17.5% in January 2010 and also that bankers bonuses will be subject to a 50% tax levy should they be over £25,000.

By the end of the report red screens were seen in the office meaning Sterling had weakened against the vast majority of currencies, this just goes to show that by having a personal account manager that can keep you up to date with market movements you can save a lot of money on any transactions you are looking to do - for example if you were buying £100,000 of Euros yesterday - catching the rate at the right time would have achieved you around €1000 more - certainly worth taking seriously!!

By contacting me I can ensure you are kept up to date with rate movements and you can secure an exchange rate with just one phone call - very handy for those with a busy life.

Also today - The Bank of England interest rate decision due at 12:00pm - no rate change is expected but be aware of any potential announcements regarding quantitative easing or bank lending rates - this could cause a lot of volatility.

Sterling weakness in early morning trading - losses against USD EUR JPY DKK CHF CAD small gains against SEK ZAR AUD NZD buy sell

This morning has seen Sterling lose ground against a basket of major currencies and also gained ground against the antipodean currecnies.... potentially down to carry trading which has once again become a major factor in the markets.

There is no major underlying factor I can see at present as to why the Pound has lost ground in general although the dust still may be settling from the GDP figures yesterday. Although they were not too bad and came out exactly as expected some investors may have gambled on figures coming out even better hence the losses.

Also, the news that big banks will have to declare how many of their U.K employees are earning over £1million - I personally think this is a stupid measure as it may eventually push financial institutions away from the U.K which in turn would not assist the economy at all........... We now have to rely on our financial sector and indeed the banks to make the U.K money as slowly but surely our manufacturing sector grinds to a halt and we no longer made anything!!

Today is thin on the ground data wise with nothing out for the U.K - although surprises do pop up all the time so it is always imperative you have someone watching the market so that you don't have to.

Minor Sterling strength ahead of key GDP data - Pound gains against JPY CAD DKK CHF THB HKD USD EUR - Still minor losses against AUD NZD ZAR

Sterling has made minor gains against a basket of major currencies in early morning trading as investors heads turn towards key GDP (Gross Domestic Product) data whereby the figures released last month of a contraction of -0.4% are set to be revised to -0.3%.

The release is due out at 09:30am and should figures come out any worse or better than expected we could see major market movements for Sterling against every major currency.

There is big news due out today for the U.K regarding banking charges and with over 1million people seeking to claim these back this could lead to major concerns once again for the banking sector.

Should the public win the court battle this could lead to huge changes in the way our bank accounts are run in the U.K, we could see monthly charges just to have an account, charges to withdraw from ATM's and basically charges for everything in the banks bid to recover their money - personally I can't see this being too positive for the Pound.

Elsewhere, South Africa are now officially out of a recession in news announced yesterday so good news for the Rand, yet another economy to have come out before the U.K!

Currency Information - The week ahead for GBP USD AUD NZD CHF and many others forecast - buying or selling foreign currency important info!

Good morning readers and I hope you had a great weekend

Once again i'm sure we are in for a turbulent week ahead on the currency markets with most notably some revised GDP figures due out for the U.K on Wednesday.

The next few days important releases are as follows:

Today

13:00pm - ECB Trichet speaks - Head of the European Central Bank Jean Claude Trichet speaks today at 13:00pm and investors will be listening in on any hints given regarding future economic policies, as the markets move on rumour as well as fact this could lead to Euro volatility.

Later in the afternoon there are a couple of releases being retail sales (excluding Autos) for Canada at 13:30pm and New home sales for the U.S at 15:00pm. These could lead to CAD and USD movements if they come out differant than analysts have predicted.

Tuesday

Tuesday looks like a busy day with consistant important releases coming out throughout the day.

07:00am One for the early birds on Tuesday as germany release their GDP figures (Gross Domestic Product) for the last quarter. Expected is growth of 0.7% which considering the last release for the U.K was -0.4% just goes to show that the Germans are a mile ahead of us in this recession.

This may be due to a number of factors, firstly we rely heavily on the financial sector these days and that quite clearly has been hit extremely hard, we also have a tendancy to "get on the housing ladder" as soon as possible over here whereby people are more likely to rent for years and years in Europe.... with all the mortgage problems and people losing their houses it seriously does not help our situation.

The manufacturing sector in germany is also picking up rapidly and they seemingly downed tools at the right time and completely halted manufacturing when things slowed down only to pick up on them again potentially just at the right time.

Expect Euro/Pound movements should the GDP come out any differant than the 0.7% expected.

At 09:00 we see Swiss unemployment data released so the CHF may well move off the back of this and then the U.K release mortgage approvals at 09:30am - A key indicator as to how the housing market in the U.K is fairing and this can have a large impact on the value of Sterling.

At 13:30pm the U.S takes it's turn and releases their revised GDP figures in what is a huge day for the Dollar.... not only do they release GDP but on top of this we see Consumer confidence and housing price data at 15:00pm followed by the FOMC minutes from the previous interest rate decision at 19:00pm - this could lead to large movements so if you do have an upcoming USD transaction whether it be buying or sellnig it is imperative you are in close contact with someone that can inform you of what is hapening throughout the day.

Wednesday

German Inflation data is released in the first seconds of Wednesday at 00:00am and also in the late night activity the RBNZ (Reserve Bank of New Zealand) release their inflation expectations so expect NZD movements off the back of this at 03:00am.

German consumer confidence comes out early at 07:00am and then we see the U.K GDP data as mentioned previously in the report due at 09:30am.

A further flurry of U.S data due out at 13:30pm and 15:00pm with personal consumption and incomes followed by new home sales - expect further Dollar volatility.

Finally on a dta filled start to the week the Japanese Monetary policy meeting is at 23:50pm so keep a close eye on the Yen.

In short - a seriously volatile start to the week ahead and with so many releases due out it is really hard to see where things are going - especially with the Dollar!

I personally thing that Sterling will have a reasonable start to the week and make gains off the back of data previously mentioned in this post and that the Dollar will fair pretty well as well, due to data from the U.S generally being quite good of late.

Do feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss any upcomnig transfers you may have.

Pound Sterling makes early morning losses ahead of BOE minutes - All eyes on quantitative easing - GBP EUR USD AUD NZD CHF SEK ZAR

This morning sees the release of the Bank of England minutes at 09:30am and could have a big impact on the strength of Sterling depending on what is mentioned.

Most investors and analysts will have a keen eye on the mention of any further quantitative easing from the last meeting - should it show that some BOE members were more in favour of further QE last time round then it may well lead to Sterling weakness as the markets move on rumour as well as fact and more money being pumped into the economy is generally seen as negative for the Pound.

On the other side of things - Should it become clear this morning that there was more of a feeling that QE should now come to an end for the time being at least then Sterling may well find some serious strength as this will be seen as really positive news for the U.K and indeed for Sterling.

In other news keep a close eye on the currnt situation with the potential Cadburys takeover - when Kraft pulled out just over a week ago this led to quite sharp Sterling weakness however a couple of new companies are now considering offers in the large U.K company.

Sterling continues strength ahead of key inflation data - GBP gains on EUR USD AUD NZD CAD CHF SEK and most major currencies

Sterling continued the reasonable start to the week this mornnig making further gains against a basket of major currencies most notably the Australian Dollar and South African Rand - both with gains of over 1% at the time of writing this post.

Inflation data is due out at 09:30am and could be a big market mover dependant on how the figures come out.

Should inflation come out as being particuarly high this would usually lead to Sterling strength (The way to usually tackle high inflation is to hike interest rates and a hike in interest rates would usually be seen as positive for the currency concerned) however in this instance we are not really in the position to hike interest rates due to the economic conditions over here, so this may well be viewed as negative for the Pound as the Bank of England pretty much have no control over inflation.

The BOE also release their inflation report which may give indications as to just how they will go about tackling things in the short term so expect volatility following this as markets do move on rumour as well as fact.

GDP data due for Eurozone - expect EUR volatility - buying or selling foreign currency?? Contact me for further info on GBP EUR AUD NZD SEK forecast

This morning at 10:00am sees the release of Eurozone GDP figures which could cause high volatility should they not come out as expected. Analysts are predicting the European economy as a whole to have grown by 0.5% however as many of you are aware analysts predicitons are not always right.

Personally I think the figures will come out worse than expected as there are still a number of economies that are dragging down the rest in Europe... my personal prediction and this is by no means certain to happen is GBP EUR to be in the high 1.12s by the end of the day.

Sterling has been undervalued for some time and even now when geting the odd bad releases still doesn't seem to want to weaken too much.

Due to buy or sell EUR USD AUD NZD SEK ZAR CHF or one of many other major currencies? Volatile day ahead for Sterling unemployment and inflation data

The Pound faces a rocky day on the currency markets as a flurry of important data is due to be released this morning, starting off at 09:30 where we see some unemployment data followed by the Bank of England quarterly inflation report and Mervyn King (Governor of the BOE)speaking at 10:30am.

Both should bring volatility - the unemployment could cause movements dependant on whether or not it comes out better or worse than expected and indications on how the BOE plan to battle the economic and inflationary situation over here should lead to movements one way or another.

My personal opinion is that we may see some weakness today, unemployment is a coin toss as to which way things will pan out but I believe it may be slightly worse than expected and Mr King is notorious throughout 2009 for talking the Pound down - my opinion is that Sterling - Euro may finish up the day in the 1.10s however I could easily be wrong and eating my words in 15 minutes time!!

Should you wish to discuss an upcoming transfer no matter how big or small with me personally do feel free to contact me either by emailing djw@currencies.co.uk or calling my direct line 01494 787462 for a friendly and impartial information on how to achieve a great exchange rate.

Latest Pound Sterling report - Fitch comment on U.K AAA status - adds to Pounds woes Losses for GBP against USD EUR AUD SEK ZAR CHF NZD HKD CZK JPY

It has come to light that at 5am this morning Fitch - a well recognised credit rating company released comments claiming that the U.K are most at risk to lose their AAA credit rating as things stand.

Should this happen you could see Sterling drop rapidly as it would be seen as extremely negative for the U.K and indeed the Pound hence the fact that rates have dropped away over the course of the morning as markets move on rumour as well as fact.

Pound Sterling Forecast - GBP continues losses in early morning trading - GBP weakness against EUR USD SEK AUD NZD CHF ZAR CZK JPY

Following a mixed bag of data overnight and this morning for the Pound - Sterling has made considerable losses against most major currencies in early morning trading.

RICS - The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors announced overnight that they now believe house prices will continue to rise from here forward and buyers are now outnumbering sellers pushing prices back up.

On the other side of the coin, Barclays nine month profits have fallen by a fifth which may be down to the fact they were hit by £6.2 Billion in charges to cover bad debts.

There are a number of banking releases due in the next few weeks and with the banks being headline news throughout 2009 this information tends to have more of an effect than it used to on the currency markets.

Should you wish to discuss any upcoming transfers or merely have a question about this report or the service I offer please email me at djw@currencies.co.uk

Sterling loses ground over afternoons trading due to Kraft bid - Swedish government also expect 2% growth in 2010 - losses against SEK EUR AUD NZD CHF

Sterling took a tumble over the afternoons trading which appears to be down to a spectacular bid by Kraft to take over Cadbury, however this bid has remained rather hostile.

It appears now that the takeover may well drag on longer than expected meaning that Cadbury's shares have lowered and the potential merge (seen as positive for the U.K economy) may be a lot further away than first thought.

"The Kraft/Cadbury bid took a bit of the shine off sterling. It will have an M&A effect (in favour of sterling) at some point in the future, but the currency influence will be much further down the road and this isn't a currency issue right now," said Maurice Pomery, managing director at Strategic Alpha.

Sterling also lost against the SEK following a report from Sweden that the government now expect their economy to have grown by 2% in 2010.

Sterling strength - The start of a fightback???? Pound gains on USD EUR AUD DKK HKD

Good morning readers and I hope you had a great weekend.....

Sterling has started off the week making gains against a basket of major currencies, most noticeably against the Dollar, gaining 1.21% at the time of writing this email and hitting Three month highs.

This poses the question - will these gains continue over the course of the week??

Data due out in the early part of this week is relatively thin on the ground for the U.K however Wednesday that all changes completely.

Wednesday sees the release of unemployment data in the morning, we also see the Bank of England inflation letter which details how they plan to combat the economic situation going forward and also BOE governor Mervyn King speaks - as the markets move on rumour as well as fact any hint of what he sees ahead or comments regarding the economy may cause volatility.

The U.S also have a flurry of data out over the course of the week so expect movements between these two currencies, the potential to break 1.70 again is certainly there...

Big day for Sterling - further Quantitative easing a possibility?? expect high volatility today GBP EUR USD SEK ZAR AUD NZD

Today has the potential to be the most volatile day of the week for Sterling as we see the release of the Bank of England interest rate decisioon at 12:00pm.

Although no changes to interest rates are expected all eyes will be focused on what is said regarding the quantitative easing programme.

Most analysts are expecting the BOE to announce pumping an extra £25billion into the economy this lunchtime and it may have already been factored into the market as the markets do move on rumour as well as fact. Should the BOE decide to go a little further and pump £50billion into the economy this could lead to major Sterling weakness however on the other side of things should they decide to leave any further QE for the time being we could see Sterling really rally.

My personal opinion is that it is a coin toss as to what will happen, if you go with the form of previous months the BOE will probably look to pump more money into the economy, leading to Sterling losing ground.

If I had to stick my neck out I would say that they are going to surprise us and hold fire with QE and see what happens over the next month.

Data of late has been much improved and personally as many major economists have mentioned it is working it is worth giving it more time to filter through.

Sterling strength as confidence in the Pound still seems to remain high - recession or no recession! GBP EUR USD AUD NZD SEK CHF DKK

Yesterday's trading saw a surprise increase in the value of Sterling against a basket of major currencies as it seems that although we are still quite clearly in a recession investors still have confidence in the U.K

My personal opinion has been for a while that Sterling is undervalued and we have taken more of a hit than we should have during the global situation however things may dip once again before they get better.

This feeling may now be echoed by major investors hence the marked improvement in rates over the past 24 hours when economic data has been thin.
