Minor Sterling strength ahead of key GDP data - Pound gains against JPY CAD DKK CHF THB HKD USD EUR - Still minor losses against AUD NZD ZAR

Sterling has made minor gains against a basket of major currencies in early morning trading as investors heads turn towards key GDP (Gross Domestic Product) data whereby the figures released last month of a contraction of -0.4% are set to be revised to -0.3%.

The release is due out at 09:30am and should figures come out any worse or better than expected we could see major market movements for Sterling against every major currency.

There is big news due out today for the U.K regarding banking charges and with over 1million people seeking to claim these back this could lead to major concerns once again for the banking sector.

Should the public win the court battle this could lead to huge changes in the way our bank accounts are run in the U.K, we could see monthly charges just to have an account, charges to withdraw from ATM's and basically charges for everything in the banks bid to recover their money - personally I can't see this being too positive for the Pound.

Elsewhere, South Africa are now officially out of a recession in news announced yesterday so good news for the Rand, yet another economy to have come out before the U.K!
