U.K to officially come out of recession this morning?? Sterling set to have a strong day??? early morning gains for GBP against EUR USD AUD NZD SEK

Sterling has started off Friday morning making gains against a basket of major currencies ahead of Gross Domestic Product figures due out shortly at 09:30am.

A economy officially enters a recession when GDP records two concecutive quarters of negative growth and they are officially out of the recession once that particular economy records just one quarter of 0% or positive growth.

Expectations are for our GDP figures to come out at 0.20% growth this morning which would mean the U.K is officially out of the recession, however as I'm sure many of you are aware even though the figures don't lie there is still a long long way before we really see a real recovery.

One would imagine that should figures come out as expected (or higher) then Sterling should have a really positive day as confidence in the Pound increases, however should figure come out worse or even more should we see negative again and still be locked in this recession for another three months I would expect the Pound to plummet.

In short an extremely volatile day is predicted one way or another on markets and my personal opinion is after seeing manufacturing data being poor alongside retail sales we could be set for weakness.

Bank of England minutes bring Sterling strength against all major currenices - EUR USD AUD NZD CAD SEK JPY

The bank of England minutes have bought Sterling strength across the board this morning which is refreshing news for those of you with upcoming requirements to send money overseas, and terribly frustrating for those that are due to bring funds back as the possibility of 'missing the boat' on the lower levels may have now become a reality.

BOE governor Mervyn King has even been saying slightly more positive words regarding the U.K of late so we could well see further gains over the course of the day.

Minor Sterling strength following better comments from King and ahead of BOE minutes - strength against USD EUR AUD CAD ZAR CHF SEK

Sterling has started off the day gaining ground against a basket of major currencies following much better than expected comments from BOE governor Mervyn King regarding the U.K's economic position.

We also saw a release from the CBI saying that they believed the economy would grow by 1.3% next year - a slightly better figure than was mentioned by Earnst & Young in a report over the weekend.

Everyone will be eagerly awaiting the release of the BOE minutes this morning at 09:30am and the mention of Quantitative Easing - should it be mentioned that QE has come to an end one would expect major Sterling strength and weakness should it be mentioned that there is more to come.

Pound sterling weakness in early morning trading after GBP - USD hit 4 week high - losses against EUR USD AUD CAD CHF SEK

Sterling has made small losses in early morning trading and indeed started to lose the ground gained at the back end of last week in late trading yesterday.

The Bank of England seem to have mixed views on how the current Quantitative easing programme is working out... as was well publicised and led to big gains last week BOE member Paul Fisher believes things are working it we may be set to draw a line under the QE programme however yesterday fellow member Adam Posen also a BOE policy maker told the Sunday Times in an interview that he believes the central bank should continue the QE because the financial system is yet to recover.

Any mention of further QE over the past 6 months has generally led to Sterling weakness so be vigilant for any announcements before the BOE minutes tommoror which could lead to large market movements dependant on comments.

Pound Sterling starts the week with negative movements following report released this morning - losses against USD EUR AUD NZD CAD SEK

Sterling has started the week off losing some of the ground it made up late last week following a report released by Earnst and Young early this morning.

The report from the highly respected accountants knocked back confidence in the Pound once again as they believe we will struggle to see much economic growth throughout the last part of 2009 and will not grow by more than 1% throughout 2010.

This has obviously led to early morning losses on what is quite a thin day data wise.

Sterling Report and Forecast October 2009 against EUR AUD NZD ZAR CAD DKK CHF THB CZK DKK SEK Is Sterling - Euro Parity possible??

Folowing a poor month for Sterling on a trade weighted basis many clients with upcoming requirements to send money overseas may be hoping for better news throughout the month of October.

The first data release of the month suggests we could be potentially looking at quite the opposite as PMI (Purchasing Managers Index) for the U.K came out worse than expected - in fact although analysts had predicted an increase it actually contracted further from last months release.

The same data was also released for the Euro Zone and typically theirs came out better than expected, although this has not had a major effect on the markets it does not get the month off to a great start.

Many analysts are talking about the possibility of parity against the Euro within this quarter, and with the Bank of England and the media seemingly happy to talk the pound down, alongside the Government looking shaky at present.

There are four factors that effect the value of a currency being economic stability, political certainty, acts of terror and acts of god. Obviously there isn't a huge amount we can do about the second two, but looking at our current economic and political situations it is quite clear that Sterling may be in for a rocky ride in the short term.

Obviously a lot can change in the currency markets in a matter of hours let alone weeks or months, so quite clearly this current view may change so be sure to keep a close eye on updates on my blog should you have transactions to make.

Sterling weakness v eur, usd, aud, nzd, zar, dkk, sek, cad in early morning trading

Upon walking into the office this morning it is red screens accross the board for Sterling meaning the Pound has weakened against pretty much every major currency in early morning trading.

There is no major data releases of note that I can put this weakness down to at present, although German PPI (Producer Price Index) data came out a lot better than expected which may have led to Euro strength.

At the time of writing this post GBP - USD hit 1.6299 and GBP - EUR dropped to 1.1114 which is a huge drop from yesterday.

I will provide further updates once I have found out the reasons behind these losses, however should you have an upcoming transfer it may be prudent to get in touch sooner rather than later.

Sterling forecast - important day on the markets gbp eur gbp usd gbp chf gbp zar gbp aud gbp nzd gbp jpy gbp sek gbp dkk

The Pound is set for a rocky day on the markets today with one of the biggest data releases of the month due out at 12:00pm. Although I do not expect to see any change in interest rates the main focus will be on whether or not the Bank Of England decide to progess with further quantitative easing measures as they have done in the past few months.

Should this be the case Sterling may lose value as it has done following the announcements in the apst few months so it may be prudent to keep an extremely close eye on the markets at midday whether you have currency to buy or sell as some great opportunities may arise.

On a positive note this morning Halifax have released data regarding house prices and their latest report shows an increase of 0.8%. The housing market is a key indicator as to how the U.K economy is going so finally brings clients with Pounds to sell and other currencies to buy a little bit of light at the end of this long dark tunnel.
